Thirty Six Weeks

Week 36...what can I say? Will this be my last week? Maybe...maybe not. I had my doctor's appointment yesterday afternoon, and have another update for you all. Let's see if I can summarize...I gained weight...Jax's growth has slowed down...which might mean that I'm back on track for an end of July due date...or I could still be delivering within the next two weeks.

I just don't know.

And if you don't think that not knowing annoys the heck out of me, then you must have just started reading along with this little blog. I'm the type of control-freak personality that likes to know exactly what's going on. And yes, I do realize that being pregnant is not necessarily an exact science. I realize that it's anyone's guess...I just thought that I was closer.

Brent summed my feelings up nicely. He said "you know, they freak you all out and tell you that you could deliver as much as a month early...then they tell you two weeks...and now you just don't know what's up!" Yeah, that pretty much sums it all up for me.

But my check-up went well. Despite increased swelling, increased pressure and false contractions, my blood pressure was perfect, my growth was right on track and his movements/heart beat were all right where they need to be. Which is what I have to keep in the forefront of my mind...his health is most important. Not my comfort level.

Here's a quick summary:
Weight? 4 lb gain – marking a total of 16 pounds
Stretch marks? Keeping my fingers crossed and my belly greased up with Palmer's...none so far!
Belly Button – innie/outie? I vaguely remember the days when it was an innie...
Movement? All the time. Except that I can tell that his space is starting to get cramped because the movements are typically not sharp jabs/kicks but strong nudges.
Swelling? This has started happening some this week. My fingers were swelling a bit here and there, especially if I get hot...but this week I've noticed that my feet/ankles are swelling around noon each day if I don't get into bed and take it a little easier.
Contractions/Signs of Labor? Daily. I have both contractions and pains...my doctor doesn't seem too concerned about them though, and for the most part they're annoying, but not painful. Don't get me wrong, every once in a while one comes along that takes my breath away...but for the most part it's mainly strong cramps. More than cramps though, it's the feeling of pressure down there that hurts the most now.
Other Issues? Like my innie belly button, sleep is a distant memory. I suppose this will help prepare me for the long nights that are surely coming my way, but I could really use the rest right now! Other than that, I'm just getting really anxious to mee the little guy! Anxious, excited and a little scared about labor...even though I've been there and done that already.

And here are my belly shots for the week...From the side, my camera continues to work it's magic of making my bump seem smaller than in real life...

But I guess from the front, my camera makes up for what it takes off from the side, because WHAM! she's got a belly!

Hahaha - yeah, I had a good laugh at that one too...it's ok, I'm not offended.

So since I'm at that mark where I'm almost considered full-term...Baby Watch 2010 has officially begun!

Happy Birthday to ME!!!

Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to SANDY
Happy Birthday to me!

Yeah, I often sing myself the "Happy Birthday" song - makes my office feel a little less lonely. LOL!

So, as you might have guessed - today is my birthday. I'm 34 today, officially entering the mid-30s range of age, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. To be perfectly honest, I hadn't even thought about my upcoming birthday (which is rare for me!) until my Mom brought my bday card to my shower this past weekend - with strict instructions to NOT open it until my birthday. I guess that I looked at her with confusion on my face, because SHE had to remind ME that my birthday was the next Friday! Too much other things going on, I suppose.

I don't know what's in store for me today. My husband is typically lavish with the gifts, and we don't have any of our children this weekend (except for the one that's still baking) so a nice, relaxing weekend might be just what the doctor ordered!

On a sort-of related side-note: while perusing Google images for a picture of a cool-looking birthday cake to include with this post, I came across some VERY disturbing pictures of birthday cakes. There were a lot of children's birthday cakes, which was expected. And there were plenty of cool looking cakes made into things that aren't cakes:

But then there were several on the first 10 or so pages of images that would not be completely appropriate to post here on the blog for those readers that might be reading while at work. An unusual amount. And then there was this one:

I don't know that I have words for someone who wants a Tom Selleck birthday cake. Maybe I would just say "to each his/her own" or "good luck!" I don't know. What's the oddest birthday cake that you've ever seen? Just for my own curiousity.

That’s It – I’m Done!

No, I’m not talking about being done with "baking" this little guy, although that possibility does loom closer with each passing day. I’m talking about how ready I feel to have this guy. Am I looking forward to labor? No, because I’m not a lunatic. (Although we all have our days, right?) I’m not looking forward to the sleepless nights, the crying, the not knowing if I’m doing it all right or scarring my child for life stage again. But I am looking forward to meeting him, holding him, smelling his sweet baby smell, and leaning his personality and quirks that I can only imagine right now.

But that wasn’t what I was talking about either. I was meaning that as of yesterday afternoon, I finally have all the items necessary to put my best effort forward in raising this little guy. Or all of the items that I think are necessary to have on hand for a newborn. Sure, my list of items might not agree with yours, but it’s my list, so there.

I got a pleasant surprise yesterday at lunch. The Hubs got off of work early (due to rain, they had a slow day) and he met me when I ended my half day so that we could grab some lunch. Since I wasn’t feeling well, he suggested stopping at Blockbuster and renting some movies to pass the afternoon with. And then I had an even better thought – we were going to come into Austin one night this week and get the rest of our essential items at Babies R Us, so why not do it now?

That thought seems kind of silly after just typing that I didn’t feel good – but I think that had to do with how I have to sit just to eat over my plate these days!

Anyway, despite the torrential rains that hit Austin right before we got ready to leave the restaurant, we headed off to BRU to go shopping. Mainly we needed to get the car seat/stroller combo unit, because everyone knows that you can’t bring a baby home from the hospital without a car seat. And there were three or four other items that I wanted to get, including his “coming home” outfit that the two of us wanted to pick out together.

Check out our haul:
Brent hadn’t had a chance to buy Jax any clothes/outfits yet, so he went a little nuts picking out some sleepers and outfits for him to wear, and when he picked up this little number, we both knew that we had found our coming home outfit.
Yes, it’s a little untraditional as far as coming home outfits go, but then again, that’s us!

So we’re all set. We’ve got a car seat, we’ve got bottles (with branch new nipples), we’ve even got a can of formula. And we’ve got a TON of clothes and bedding items thanks to all of our generous family and friends! So with one more load of laundry done, and some quick assembly to the car seat/stroller we’re all ready to bring the little guy home.

By the way, Brent has been predicting for the last few days that Jax is making his appearance this weekend. I don’t know about that, but I do know that things are changing – the pains are different, they’re coming whether I’m taking it easy or being on my feet, and I’m about out of room! I go to see the doctor tomorrow afternoon, so we’ll see if she agrees with Brent or not – I’ll keep you posted!
